FAQ

  • How much does therapy cost?

Our standard rate is $120 for a 50 minute individual session, which is generally considered a therapeutic hour. Our standard rate for couples therapy is $150

  • Do you take insurance?

Yes, and it’s complicated. We are working on getting credentialed with many of the most popular insurance companies in Missouri. We have also partnered with Sondermind which is a company that acts as a middle man, collecting your insurance information, charging your portion of the fees, whether that is deductible or copay, and then they pay us. However, regardless of whether we bill insurance ourselves, or go through Sondermind, insurance only pays for what they deem medically necessary. As a general rule they will not pay for couples counseling, or for concerns that do not reach the level of a diagnosable mood disorder, anxiety disorder, or other mental illness.

  • What if I can't afford therapy?

Talk to us. Accessibility is one of our core values. One of the great benefits of being in business for ourselves is that we have autonomy to address needs as we see fit. We cannot possibly see everyone at a reduce rate, but we do sometimes offer sliding scale services as needed.
We also will have two interns available for low cost or no cost services starting in January 2024! You can read more about Leslie here or Alaina here.

  • How will you collect my fees

This topic is under review. We have been using Ivypay, but are looking at other options. We will update this section as we narrow this down

  • Are there any downsides to using my insurance?

That is a great question, and I’m glad you asked. As previously mentioned, insurance companies require proof of medical necessity before they will pay for services. That means that they will access your diagnosis, basic progress notes (less detailed than therapy notes), and length and frequency of sessions. They might also limit the number of sessions that are approved or determine that your services don’t actually meet medical necessity criteria. Not everyone needs or wants to have a diagnosis, and some people would rather their insurance company not have so much access or control over their mental health care.

  • How can I help you provide low cost services

I’m so glad you asked! We also started a 501 (C)3 non-profit organization, the Salus Foundation to help us help the community and we would love to have you partner with us!

  • What happens if I cancel my session

We do request that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to make a scheduled appointment. If it is less than 24 hours we reserve the right to charge you a late cancel fee. We may opt to waive the late cancel fee depending on the conversation we have with your history of attendance with us, but this is not guaranteed. Failure to show up or cancel the appointment will always result in a no show fee.

  • What should I expect from therapy?

Before you get started, your therapist will send you a link to complete the intake paperwork including consent forms and basic questionnaires, as well as to complete your demographic profile. During your first session, you and your counselor will fully discuss your reasons for seeking counseling and your goals for counseling, as well as discuss what limits there are to your confidentiality. Beyond that, you are your therapy will talk as frequently as agreed upon to address your concerns and goals.

  • Did you say limits to my confidentiality?

Yes. The things you say to your therapist are confidential. There are a few exceptions grounded in the law and protection of you and society as a whole.
    1. We are mandated reporters. That means if you disclose abuse of a protected individual, we must report that.
    2. We have a duty to prevent you from hurting yourself or others, so if we believe you are in serious danger of doing so, we must take steps to stop that from happening.
    3. A judge can order us to testify in court or to turn over records
    4. If you use insurance, they will access your records as a part of the agreement to pay for your services.
    5. If you ask us to share records, we will do so with a signed Release of Information.

  • Will I be hospitalized if I talk about suicidal thoughts?

Only if we believe it is the only way to stop you from hurting yourself. We want you to be able to bring those thoughts to us. We want to help you move past those thoughts. We are not quick to hospitalize and would need to believe there was truly an imminent danger before we would do so.

  • What do you mean by "Intern"?

Interns are students in grad school who have completed most or all of the coursework toward earning a master’s degree in counseling. They are now getting the practical experience of counseling clients under the supervision of one of our fully licensed clinicians and under the supervision of their university instructors. A fully licensed clinician will always be on site while an intern is seeing clients and will review records and treatment practices with the intern. The intern’s supervisor is available to all clients seen by the intern if questions or concerns should arise.
